As Doug mentioned this is due to the behavior of the transport cache. 

You could try the "-ORBMuxedConnectionMax n" option to limit the number 
of connections, however there is a potential problem in this option.
I have a change which I have not yet checked in that among other things 
fixes this option.  I'm taking a vacation next week so I'll wait until 
the following week before checking the change in..
