I agree with Johnny on all points. I have one more suggestion for you. You can download ocitao 1.3a p18 from
http://download.ociweb.com/TAO-1.3a/ACE+TAO-1.3a_with_latest_patches.tar.gz
This is a fork based on TAO 1.3.1 that should be a drop-in replacement. You'll need to regenerate your makefiles with MPC. I can't say whether or not it addresses your problem or not, but at least interfaces/libraries will be consistent.
