To: A list for GME users to share thoughts and discuss bugs and fixes.
Subject: [gme-users] Status of 4.5.18?
Warning: Rant!
What kind of release is 4.5.18 (alpha, beta, release candidate, final)?
We always had internal and external releases. All releases residing on the
atlantis file server only are intended for internal testing. GME releases on
the web are public/external releases.
GME 4.5.18 can be downloaded from the web. It is a public release.
What bugs are fixed since 4.3.17?
Fixed bugs and new features are listed in the readme.txt file.
Does the GME team advocate distributing 4.5.18 over 4.3.17?
Yes. "External release" means exactly this.
Is there a roadmap for planned GME releases?
Does the GME team plan to begin using a release process that allows external
users to be involved in settling down new releases?
This "GME on such and such a date" thing is totally stupid: it tells nobody
(other than perhaps the developers) anything useful. It is just more
evidence of the GME Now vs. GME Then "philosophy" that I've ranted about in
the past. I strongly advocate that the GME team adopt a legitimate release
strategy.
I hope with the growing GME team we will be able to have such "release
plans". As you know, we always have short/mid/long term task (thanks to
Akos). We should make these things public on the new web site.
