Yes, apparently you are right!
I tried combining GME 4.11.10 and JDK 1.4.2 as well as 5.9.21 and
1.4.2. This worked! However, when I used JDK 1.5.0, that error
described earlier occured, even though I had additionally compiled 
the java classes for compatibility with 1.4.2.
